ketoconazole and zinc Pyrithione are used together to treat skin conditions such as dandruff, psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. It Prevents the dry and scaly skin of the scalp, face, ears, chest due to fungal infection.

Description

Ketoconazole-
Ketoconazole belongs to the imidazole antifungal drug which is used against the fungal infection. It falls into the broad-spectrum drug. Ketoconazole is used as 2% solution for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. There is greater reduction in the scaling, erythema, pruritis.

Zinc Pyrithione-
It is chelated complex of zinc and Pyrithione. It has antifungal and antibacterial, antimicrobial, bacteriostatic property that’s by it is used to treat dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, acne or psoriasis. It inhibits the growth of yeast which is the main factor for causing dandruff. It is the main used ingredient of shampoo’s as antidandruff agent.

Mode of Action

Ketoconazole acts on the enzyme 14-alpha- demethylase and inhibit its action. This enzyme is responsible for the synthesis of ergosterol which is the main component of the fungal membrane.

Zinc Pyrithione inhibits the action of copper induced growth induced in the bacterial membrane. Zinc is also reducing itching and redness which is associated with seborrheic dermatitis.
